Hi, I’m Dr. Starlyn Hawes
Daughter. Sister. Wife. Mom (my kids have paws, fingers, and toes). Friend. Networker. Community builder. Bridge builder. Change agent. Clinical Psychologist (Health and Rehabilitation specialties). Coach. Consultant. Board member. Legislative Advocacy committee member.
I could go on but let me get to the point: I am on a mission to MPower Melanated Clinicians + High Achieving Diverse Professionals to create a legacy that is grounded in their passion + power + purpose while honoring life balance. I also seek to facilitate Universities ability to MPower their students to gain the ability to do so as well.
I was on the narrow, yet expansive road to academia, did all the things and then some to earn my place in that echelon and realized I did not want a seat at that table. Don’t get me wrong. There are many valuable aspects of academia and the ways in which we can support community. However, the red tape, the politics, the inequities were more than I wanted to take on any longer than I already had. So I PIVOTED… I pivoted and paved my own way. Unfortunately, none of my higher education taught me the business skills I would need to be effective out of the gate. Honestly, I’m alright with that. Nothing was ever handed to me anyway. I picked myself up, like I typically do, and learned along the way. Perseverance from the most strategically informed place possible also helped. Shoutout to those who offered consultation and guidance along the way. It takes a village… Over six years into my self-determined entrepreneurial path, it’s time for me to share what I’ve learned and make it easier for others to accomplish their goals.
